October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To recognize the people who have died from and/or are fighting the terrible disease of cancer, all MTHS football players will be wearing a Pink ribbon sticker on the back of their helmets for the rest of the season.
Unfortunately, we all have been touched by this tragic disease in some way. Here at MTHS we are reminded everyday at Mark Macres Memorial Stadium. MTHS athletes touch the rock everyday in remembrance of Mr. Macres’ courageous battle with cancer. This is an opportunity for us all to come together to honor those who have fought and are fighting cancer and work towards finding a cure.
Here are some options if you are interested in donating to the fight against cancer & cancer research to find a cure, in no particular order, with some information on each. The first four directly benefit those in the greater Sacramento area.
1. Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development
2900 Rocky Point Drive
Tampa, FL 33607
Shriners serves seriously ill children (burns, cancer, cleft palate, orthopedic/spine, etc), who have no other healthcare options. The family’s of children treated by the Shriners are not charged for their care. Shriners is funded through grants and donations.
If choosing Shriners, please attach a note asking that the funds being donated be directed to the Sacramento facility.

6. https://thebreastcancersite.greatergood.com/clickToGive/bcs/home
You can visit the site everyday and click on the mammogram link; clicking on the link helps provide free mammograms for the uninsured.
In support of Childhood Cancer Awareness, we are proud to announce that the MTHS Football program has joined Touchdowns Against Cancer! We are inviting our community to pledge a donation for every touchdown MTHS Varsity scores from September 7th to September 28th. Every touchdown we score will directly benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and help defeat childhood cancer. You can make a difference by pledging to donate for every touchdown we score or you may make a one-time flat donation by clicking here: https://pledgeit.org/tac18-elk-grove-ca-monterey-trail-mustangs
Spread the word to family and friends!
In recognition of the fight against cancer, all MTHS & Jr Mustang football players will be wearing a Pink ribbon sticker on the back of their helmets in October. Our cheerleaders will be wearing a Pink bow. As per MTHS & MTJM Football Tradition we will maintain our Green, Gold and Black uniform code during the month of October.
Unfortunately, we have all been touched by this tragic disease in some way. We are reminded every day at Mark Macres Memorial Stadium. Our stadium was dedicated to Mr. Mark Macres, MTHS founding Vice Principal of Athletics, after he passed away in 2007. In remembrance of Mr. Macres’ courageous battle with cancer, our Jr Mustang players are encouraged to touch the memorial rock at the South end of the stadium during every practice and home game.
On behalf of the coaching staff and players, thank you for your support and generosity!
Mark Macres Memorial Game – Friday Sep 7 – 7pm vs Cosumnes Oaks. Come out and honor Mr. Macres as we welcome his family in our pregame ceremony!
